Continuing Education Requirements and Reporting - Even/Odd
Numbered Licensees
Beginning
January 1, 1999 all Minnesota licensed Morticians were required
to obtain Continuing Education (CE) credits. Since CE reporting
requirements are for a two year period and licensee renewals are
annual, all licensees have been divided by even and odd license
numbers to coincide CE reporting with licensure renewal. Funeral
Directors and Interns are exempt from the continuing education
requirement.
Even
Numbered Licensees
will be required to obtain 12 CE's during 2000 and 2001 for reporting
with the January 1,, 2002 renewals (mailed November/December,
2001). All subsequent reporting for EVEN NUMBERED LICENSEES will
require 12 CE's every two years. CE's must be obtained during
the specific reporting period prior to renewal. CE's obtained
prior to the reporting period will not qualify and no
CE's may be carried forward into the next reporting period.
New
Licensees
are exempt from obtaining CE during the first reporting period.
If your even numbered license is M-3530 or smaller, your first
CE reporting will begin in January 1, 2000 and you will need to
obtain and report 12 CE's for the January 1, 2002 renewal. Even
numbered licensees with numbers M-3532 or higher will begin their
first CE reporting January 1, 2002 and will need to obtain and
report 12 CE's for the January 1, 2004 renewal.
Odd
Numbered Licensees
are required to obtain 12 CE's during 2001 and 2002 for reporting
with the January 1, 2003 renewals (this coming November/December,
2002) All subsequent reporting for ODD NUMBERED LICENSEES will
require 12 CE's every two years. CE's must be obtained during
the specific reporting period prior to renewal. CE's obtained
prior to the reporting period will not qualify and no
CE's may be carried forward into the next reporting period.
New
Licensees are exempt from obtaining CE during the first reporting
period. If your odd numbered license is M-3581 or smaller, your
CE reporting began January 1, 2001 and you will need to obtain
and report 12 CE' for the January 1, 2003 renewals (November/December
2002). Odd numbered licensees with numbers M-3583 or higher will
begin obtaining CE January 1, 2003 and will need to obtain and
report 12 CE's for the January 1, 2005 renewal.
Reporting
of CE's will be done on the Mortician Continuing Education Record
located on the back of your renewal application. Each individual
licensee shall maintain all documentation required for four years
after the last day of the period in which CE's were earned. Documentation
should NOT be submitted unless requested.
If
participating in CE would impose an extreme hardship on you, you
may request a waiver. The request for waiver must be in writing
and submitted to the Mortuary Science Section within 60 days of
your license expiration date. As a licensee, you are required
to comply with the CE requirements. The Commission of Health has
the authority to discipline licensees who fail to comply with
the CE requirements for Morticians.
Pre-approval

pre-approval or that are conducted by organizations accredited
for funeral service education may be used to meet the continuing
education requirement. To apply for program approval, or to obtain
al list of the approved providers and programs, you may contact
